President Enrique Peña Nieto congratulated President Donald J. Trump

Early Saturday morning,
January 21, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto telephoned the new president of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
During the call, President
Peña Nieto congratulated President Trump on his inauguration, and he told him of Mexico’s desire to work on an
agenda that benefits both countries, with an approach of respect for sovereignty of the two nations and shared responsibility.
The president repeated the
strategic priority of bilateral ties for both countries and expressed his interest in maintaining an open dialogue with the
US government, which will begin on January 25 and 26 with the visit by Foreign Affairs Secretary Luis Videgaray Caso and Economy
Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal to Washington DC to hold high-level meetings with members of the new US administration.
The purpose of these working
conversations is to create a framework of meetings and certainty on various issues, including trade, migration and security.
Lastly, the two leaders
repeated their confidence that this new dialogue would yield positive results for both nations, and they agreed to meet in
the near future.
